Guilin Food

Guilin Rice noodles are a daily dish of locals’ diet and it has a long history of three hundreds years. During meal times the many small rice noodle (2.5yuan a bowl) restaurants are always packed with diners. Guilin rice noodles can probably be found within 100m of any town or city area.

Fish is a main material for cooking in Guilin since this city is located along the Li River. Yangshuo beer fish, pickled cabbage fish, steamed fish and acid dried fish are the favorite dishes for the locals and travelers.

Besides, the Oil Tea is a distinctive flavor of Guilin. Every people from the countries of Guilin regularly drink it as breakfast especially for the Dong People.

Located in the central part of Ling Nan, Guilin offers dishes with a mixture of Guangdong and Hunan flavors which specializes in sour, spicy and sweet. Rice is the staple food in Guilin due to their habit of growing rice. There are lots of snacks made from rice which can be found in many streets in Guilin, including Sponge Cake (Fagao), Water Chestnut Cake (Mati Gao) and Bowl Cake (Wan Gao).
