Diecai Hill, an amazing hill formed of layers of vibrant rocks looks as if it were coated with piles of brocade, hence Piled Brocade Hill. It is famous for its fascinating sceneries and stone carvings.

Diecai Hill is situated in the northeast of Guilin, neighboring to the elegant Li River.it is one of the most popular mountains that attract many tourists. Together with Duxiu Peak and Fubo Hill, they consist three legs of a tripod. Covering an area of 2 kilometers, it is composed of Bright Moon Peak, Crane Peak, Siwang Hill and Yuyue Hill.

Something about Diecai Hill

Bordering to the Li River, Diecai Hill is more like a beauty standing in the water. The sunlit stratified rocks on the hill resembling piles of brocades earn it the name Diecai Hill (Folded Brocade Hill). It is called Guishan for the hill was abound in cassia trees long time ago, and it is also named Wind Cave Hill for there is a cave blowing wind in all seasons.

What to See

Sceneries are through the whole hill. As the highest peak of Diecai Hill, Bright Moon Peak is not hard to conquer. The main charming scenes are Diecai Pavilion, Yuyue Pavilion, Wangjiang Pavilion, Wind Cave, and Could-Catching Pavilion. Climbing on the Bright Moon Peak to have an overview of the whole city in the Cloud-catching Pavilion can be a great joy.

The Historic Charm of the Diecai Hill

Been found as a fairyland during Tang Dynasty (618 - 907), it lured numerous poets and writers. They gathered their poetic inspiration amidst the enthralling surrounding scenery. Hundreds of poems inscribed on the hill's cliffs from the past dynasties add extra charm to the site.

Diecai Pavilion

Located in the mountaineering way of Diecai Hill, Diecai Pavilion covers an area of almost 64 square kilometers. 5 meters (16 feet) high, 7.5 meters (25.6 feet) long and 8.5 meters (27.9 feet) wide, it is surrounded by Bright Moon Peak to the north, Siwang Hill to the west and Yuyue Hill to the east. Although only a single storey high, it is well designed and elaborately built with red poles, green tiles, and four unique angles.

Wind Cave

Wind Cave is a wonder located at the hillside of Bright Moon Peak, which is waiting for you to hear its singing. The wind blows through in all seasons and its changing temperature makes this cave a miracle. According to the altering seasons, the wind differs. Generally, cool wind blows at the most time, for this reason it is reputed as the "Cool World". This cave is popular not only for its wind but for its rock carvings, both inside and outside the cave. Nearly 100 Buddha images of the Tang (618 - 907) and Song (960 - 1279) dynasties, as well as 210 stone carvings, can be found here. If you are interested in Chinese calligraphy and want to experience the peculiar nature of this remarkable cave, now is your chance. Near the cave gate there is Chengyi Marshal’s poem refers to “Prefer citizen of Guilin instead of an immortal”.

Bright Moon Peak

As the main peak of Diecai Hill, the Bright Moon Peak covers an area of 1.41 hectares with the elevation of 223 meters. The peak is high enough to reach the moon hence the name Bright Moon Peak.

Cloud-Catching Pavilion

The climax part during the tour of Diecai Hill for it is able to offer the panoramic Guilin. See: the winding Li River runs between mountains; Duxiu Hill and Fubo Hill tower to the sky; unknown stone hills stand under hills… what a colorful view!
