Nanjing, also Nanking, the capital of Jiangsu Province, is located in the Yangtze River downstream. As the second largest city in the eastern China, Nanjing has population of 8,109,100 as of 2011. It is the important transportation hub, and also has developed politics, science, education and industry.

As one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, Nanjing city has a history of over 2,500 years. Nanjing was once the largest city in the world in the period from the 3rd to 6th century. It was the capital of China at the time of the Republic of China (1911-1949).
