Nanjing has many varieties of handicraft articles. Among them, the more famous ones are figured brocade, velvet, Nanjing goldleaf product and Yuhua stone and so on. Authentic figured brocade can be found in Nanjing Figured Brocade Research Institute. Nanjing Museum and relics store near Confucians Temple are good place to buy Yuhua stone.

The large-scaled shopping malls in Nanjing are concentrated on Hunan Road, and Xinjiekou District is a flourishing walking street with kinds of brand shops, which is suitable for mass consumption.

These are said to come from the area of Yuhuatai (Flower Rain Terrace, a historical memorial place for Chinese martyrs in the city), Liuhe and Jiangpu in Nanjing. These hard polished stones when placed in water reveal colorful patterns. They are usually a kind of precious agate. Folk artists make them into ring covers, ear or necklace pendants or other fine jewelry. Put them into a fishbowl or a vase to make the patterns emerge. It is a popular gift for friends.

This is said to be one of the ten renowned tea categories in China. The green and erect tea leaves are considered a metaphor for the spirit of patriotic soldiers, giving the tea the name of this patriotic memorial place. The tender leaves are processed with great care and have a delicate appearance and fresh taste. The tea has the healthy effect of protecting against food poisoning, refreshing the body, quenching thirst and cleaning the system. It is often presented as a gift to friends.

Fashion Lady has what its name implies ? fashionable clothing and accessories for ladies. Inside this underground mall is two floors of very long hallways lined with small stores each about 10-20 square meters large. Since these stores are owned and operated privately it seems they each give off the unique style of the owner.

The big box Metro supermarket has the largest selection of imported Western foods of any store in Nanjing. It's surely the place to go if you are looking for variety or looking to buy in bulk quantities. However, the prices on most goods are not as cheap as some other stores in Nanjing.

Deji Plaza is Nanjing's latest attempt at a super-trendy mall with international brands. Several international mid to high range brands that cannot be found in other stores in Nanjing are found here. Versace, FCUK, Escada, popular athletic wear labels, trendy home furnishings, and GNC are just a few examples of Western brands at Deji Plaza.
