Animals

In the Reserve there are over 50 species of animals and 300 species of birds. The number of giant pandas here approximately accounts for one tenth of the total, and therefore Wolong National Nature Reserve is also identified as homeland of giant pandas. Besides giant pandas, red pandas, golden pheasants, white-eared pheasants and Chinese monals as well as the stunning Firethroats, golden monkeys and Musk Deer can also be found here. These animals live in an altitude of 2600-3600 meters of coniferous forest.

Panda

The reserve, home to giant pandas, is one of the several ones of its kind in the world. Panda is one of the most precious animals in the world, very scarce number, known as the Chinese national treasure. The giant panda is an endemic animal only living in china. And it is also as a friendly representative in the diplomatic activity. It is a very cute kind of animal with black and white colors. The main food for pandas is bamboo, so in the reserve, many bamboos are planted. During you journey, you can see their lovely and cute behaviors. Because of addicting to love drinking water, most pandas are located near the streams, which help them drink water easily. Arriving at the streams, the pandas drink in the way of licking. If the streams froze into thin ice or fill with gravel, they will crush or dig a shallow to lick. During your visiting, you can truly feel the habits of the pandas.

Plants

Wolong Nature Reserve forest covers an area of 118,000 hectares, accounting for 56.7% of the total area of the protection. Shrub meadow covers an area of about 30,400 hectares. The complex natural conditions cause the diversity of plant species and communities. Wolong National Nature Reserve has become China’s largest and certainly the most important sanctuary for giant pandas and other rare and precious animals and plants during the climatic fluctuation of the ice age, and consequently southwest China has the richest alpine and subalpine flora than anywhere in the world.
