Feiyun Cliff integrates natural scenery and historical relics. An ancient temple here named Yuetan Temple is praised as "the First Ancient Temple of Guizhou".

Feiyun Cliff, also called Feiyun Cave, is located in northeast of Huangping County. It has a history of 560 years. The first building here is Yuetan Temple built in 1443, which is praised as "the First Ancient Temple of Guizhou". After many times of reconstruction and expansion, Feiyun Cliff has formed a featured ancient architecture group with religious architecture, ethnic architecture and garden architecture.

Famous Carved Inscriptions

In Guizhou’ scenic spots, Feiyun Cliff has the most literature narrative and inscriptions from tourists. Until now, Feiyun Cliff still preserves rich poem, couplet, and inscription engraved on the cliff and stele, so it is also reputed as “High Grade Ore” for Guizhou culture.

Feature

Feiyun Cliff is tourism spot that integrates natural scenery, historical relics, and ethnic custom. It is an ancient architecture group composed of temples, long Corridors and pavilions. There are Feiyun Cliff, Huangjin Tower, Dicun Pavilion, Jieyin pavilion, Yuetan temple and so on. These ancient buildings are built on a dustpan-shaped cliff, or on a flat ground, or on the top of the cliff, which all have curving cornice, carved beams and painted rafters.

Yuetan Temple is the main building in Feiyun Cliff. Feiyun Cliff does not only have temple architecture, but has a garden style. It gained the name because stone cliffs hang in the air like clouds floating in the sky. Cliffs are pocked with stalactite holes and drooping stalactite drops. Stele standing between cliffs, there are 20 stone carvings existing from Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Ethnic Gathering

There holds a grand-scale ethnic gathering on every 8th, April in the lunar calendar, and it lasts for three days. In this period, the Mao nationality lived in the near would come together. The kinds of ethnic performances are ethnic song and dance, bullfight, horse racing, folk acrobatics, Kung Fu etc. The traditional artifacts are tie dyeing, embroidery, and clay whistle and so on. The activities attract lots of tourist at home and abroad.
