Lake Hongfenghu

Lake Hongfenghu shaped like a crystal mirror is embedded on the suburb of Qinzhen County, 33 km from Guiyang city. Its total area is 57.2 square kilometers，with 100 meters in depth, and it can hold water 600 million cubic meters. Lake Hongfenghu is surrounded by red maple tree. In autumn, maple leaf is like fire, with lake water flowing slowly, which set off each other, so gained the name of “Red Maple Lake”. It is praised as “the Pearl of Plateau”, and it is the largest artificial lake in Guizhou plateau area.

Lake Hongfenghu is featured for lava landform and beautiful scenery of lakes and mountains. Lake area includes North Lack, Mid Lake, South Lake and Back Lake. Four lakes have different sceneries.

North Lake

North Lake is famous for its island. There is Bird Lake, Snake Lake, and Turtle Lake and so on, which are like scattering pearls adorned on the green lake. With this special scene, along the North Lack, there is an ancient tomb group in West Han Dynasty (202BC-9BC).

South Lake

South Lake is known for the cave. There are General Cave, Catching Fish Cave, and Under Water Cave etc. General Cave is the most fantastic one. When lake water rises, it forms distinctive scenery “Lake in the Cave”. Stalactite pillars in the cave are colorful, and in the end of cave, there is a crystal stone curtain with ten meters high and twenty meters wide, like a huge waterfall pouring down from the cliff, and it is very spectacular.

Mid Lake

Mid Lake links to North Lack and South Lake. Steep cliffs and mountains are in two sides of the narrow Mid Lake. There are two special stones, and one is shaped like a fairy, and another one is like a Buddist arhat with smile.

Back Lake

There are lots of bents crisscrossed in the Back Lake. You thought that it was in the end of the lake, when turns a bent, a picturesque scene will be in front of you. Lakes, islands, mountains and caves are combined as a whole, and form a beautiful picture.

Local features

It is worth mentioning that is Ethnic Village in Lake Hongfenghu. There are ethnic buildings built by Miao Minority, Dong Minority and Puyi Minority. Ethnic Village is not only gathered original custom performances from 16 ethnic minorities and other performances like acrobatics, circus etc. There also holds “Local Custom Gala Night”, once in a week, and songs and dances from various nationalities can be found here.

Lake Hongfenghu is rich of aquatic products, especially fish. Fish is a nice choice, and it is also famous in the local.

Tie dyeing with diverse patterns, like dragon, a symbol of luckiness; butterfly, recognized as the ancestor of animals and fish and bird, standing for harmonious family. Embroidery and hand-stitching work also are traditional ethnic craft in Guiyang.
