Hongfu Temple

Hongfu Temple was built by a monk named Chi Song in 1672 and continued on 32 years. With a distance of 1.5 km from Guiyang city, it is situated on the southwest of Qianling Mountain, which is called as “Mountain No.1 in Guizhou”. There are spectacular main halls and historical relics preserved well in Hongfu Temple, such as Nine Bend Trail, Ancient Buddha Cave, Fahua Tower, Forest of Stupa, Bronze Bell and so on.

Main halls in Hongfu Temple

Hongfu Temple has three main buildings, and they are Hall of Heavenly Kings, Avalokiteshvara Hall and Maitreya Hall. All halls are with red walls and green tiles, carved beams and painted rafters, and tortuous corridors around. They are very spectacular.

Hall of Heavenly King enshrines Maitreya and its four safeguards, and Buddhist scriptures inscribed on the stone tablet is in the south, and a huge painting in two sides of walls outside the hall; Avalokiteshvara Hall has Avalokiteshvara with 32 arms, and it stands for 32 Buddha's metamorphic bodies, infinitely merciful, saving mankind from miserable life. Veda Bodhisattva is in the back of the hall with sinister glare and with his weapon in hand; there are figures of Buddha of Sakyamuni, ananda, Kasyapa, Manjusri, Samantabhadra and Eighteen Disciples of the Buddha in Maitreya Hall, which are all gold-skinned.

Bronze bell

Entering Hongfu Temple from the main gate, there are drum and bell towers standing in two sides, and the Bronze Bell is 1500 kg in weight and was made in 1469 ,and was moved here 1980 from Daxing Temple.

Forest of Stupa

In the back of the temple is Forest of Stupa, which is a place to house ashes of the famous monks in all ages.

“Nine Bend Trail”

The following is the ancient “Nine Bend Trail” built in 1688, and the whole path has 383 steps. Along the path, with stone carvings on the cliffs, there are historical relics such as “ancient Buddha Cave”,” Washing Bo Pool”, and Ling Guan Pavilion”.

Kylin Cave

Down to the north from “Nine Bend Trail”, Kylin Cave is here and there are different kinds of grotesque lavas. It gained the name because a piece of lava down to the land and its shape like a kylin. Kylin Cave has a history of over 400 years. It is so famous because it once was a place to imprison patriotic generals named Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng.

Fahua Tower

Fahua Tower is new built and located in front right of the temple. It is hexagonal and seven-tiered with 15 meters high. The Lotus Sutra is collected here.

Hongfu Temple is not only a center of Buddhist activities, but a special tourism spot.
