Jiaxiu Tower

Jiaxiu Tower was first built in 1598. As an ancient building of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it has a distinguishing feature that wooden three-floor pavilion with 20 meters high, white stone pillars, carved windows, and carved patterns in stone parapets around. It is a landmark building in Guiyang city.

Ascending on the tower, surrounding sceneries all are in your eyes. This kind of style is unique in ancient architectures history in China. Fuyu Bridge is 90 meters long, like a white dragon lying on the river, which links to the two sides of Jiaxiu Tower. Passing through the tower, you can see Hanbu Pavilion on the bridge, and Hanbi Pool and Shuiyuotai under the bridge and Cuiwei Pavilion in the south, which are coordinated from afar.

Inside the Jiaxiu Tower, many authentic works of painting and stone carvings from ancient calligraphers, and ancient woodenwares are collected here.

Famous couplet

There are many poets who have works to praise Jiaxiu Tower, and the most famous one is a couplet with 206 words written by a poet Liu Yushan of Qing Dynasty (1636-1911). The couplet is longer than "the longest couplet" collected in Daguan Tower in Kunming. This couplet is notable not only for its length, but also for its value to literature. The couplet summarizes the geographical environment and historical development of Guiyang. It has witnessed hundred years ‘development of Guiyang city.

The legend

It is also called as “First Scholar's Tower". It is said that in Ming Dynasty, there has the first scholar, and government officials contributed the tower as his study room to encourage more scholars to follow his example.

The night scene at the tower is most beautiful. Colorfully decorated with lanterns, the tower is reflected in the river and looks so nice that people may feel as if they were back to ancient times.
