Yellow Cloth Shoal, one of the highlights in Li River Cruise, is a large cream-colored flagstone like yellow cloth lies under the water. Sunset at here is extremely beautiful.

Lying about 60 kilometers away from Guilin City, the Yellow Cloth Shoal is about 500 meters downstream southward from the Mural Hill. It attracts thousands of visitors because the water is clear and calm and is a natural mirror making perfect images of the peaks in this area. The Yellow Cloth Reflection is the most appealing scene which mingles the real scene with the inverted images.

What to Appreciate

Yellow Cloth Reflection

With verdant bamboos, the green peaks under the blue sky reflected on the quiet waters create a spectacular scene. Sometimes, people doubt they see boats floating on hill tops. Many Chinese paintings and poems present this charming scene and tourists run out of their films for it.

However, not everybody is lucky enough to enjoy this enthralling sight. On rainy days, the reflections are destroyed by raindrops and on foggy days, they are blurred by mist. Only on sunny days can the reflection be best seen and visitors can at that time fully enjoy the reflection there.

The background for the newly released note of CNY 20 is derived from the scene of the Yellow Cloth Reflection.

Seven Peaks

On both sides of the river, the Shoal is escorted by seven peaks in various gestures and sizes. They seem like seven elegant and graceful girls. Imaginative people give them the beautiful name of 'Seven Celestial Sisters Coming Down to Earth'.

Vivid Stones

On the hill which is situated on the left bank, there is a stone looking like a monkey holding a watermelon. Next is a bear lying on its back with four legs pointing up. On the right bank, there is a stone with the height of over 3 meters in the shape of a woman holding a baby in her arms. It is much more specifically of a maid in ancient palace. This scene is called Lady-in-waiting Holding the Crown Prince. The following are six humped cliffs stand in order besides Li River.

Near the Yellow Cloth Shoal

After cursing down 200 meters from the Yellow Cloth Shoal, it is another shoal named Zhubi Shoal which between them is a wide river smooth like a mirror. With the addition of inverted images of odd-shaped cliffs, it endows visitors an enjoyable perfect scene.

Legend about the Seven Peaks

Legend has it that the seven peaks are become from seven fairy girls from the heaven. One day, these seven sisters come down to earth to hang around. They are so addicted to the sceneries in Li River that they refuse to return the heaven when the Emperor of Heaven orders. Thus, they change themselves into stone cliffs standing besides Li River by using their mystiques.

Best Visiting Time

On a fine and windless day, the reflections of the seven peaks are so vivid that you may not tell the real peaks by the river from the reflections in the water. You will experience the feeling that you are sailing on the top of the peaks. So the best time to appreciate the beauty of the Yellow Cloth Shoal is sunny days.

How to get there

From Yangshuo: there are buses departed to Xingping Village from Yangshuo Bus Station. Each 20 minutes a bus, CNY5.5/40 minutes
