Known as an imperial mausoleum in which eleven princes of the Jingjiang Family were buried during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Tomb of Prince Jingjiang in Guilin is magnificent enough to astonish anyone.

Located on the western foot of Yao Mountain in the eastern suburb of Guilin, it is about 5 km form downtown Guilin. It has been renowned as the finest tomb in Ling Nan with its power and grandeur.

Something about Prince Jingjiang

The Jingjiang Family is comprised of the descents of King Jingjiang, the nephew of a Ming emperor. During the earlier Ming period, to strengthen the centralization of state power, Ming Emperor Taizu (the first Ming emperor) designated his 24 sons as kings to administer different areas in China. King Jingjiang got his title and built his palace at the foot of Duxiu Peak. The descendent kings chose this mausoleum site as their burial place. Been existed for 280 years of this position, 14 descents took over the kingship successively and 11 princes had been buried here.

Layout

There are in total 300 tombs in the site with an area of 100 square meters. Stone statues are arranged on both sides of way to the inner palace including various kinds of animals. Inside the palace locates a Prayer Hall which is set for religious and ancestral prayers. So far, there is only one tomb open to public. It is the third king of the Jingjiang family, buried with large numbers of precious antiques.

Prince Jingjiang's Tomb Museum

As one part of the tomb of Prince Jingjiang, this museum exhibits unearthed cultural relics from the tomb group. Over 300 pieces of antiques are displayed after archaeological excavation during 1970's. Many precious cultural relics, including gold, silver, pottery, porcelain, jade, and other antiques were revealed, which proclaim the funeral rules in Ming Dynasty.
