Star of Nanchang

Star of Nanchang, situated in the eastern Chinese city of Nanchang, the capital of Jiangxi Province, is the second highest Ferris wheel in the world at present. With a total height of about 160 meters and a wheel diameter of about 135 meters, Star of Nanchang has 60 capsules and each of them can accommodate 6 to 8 people at one time. The Star of Nanchang was opened to the public in May 2006 at a cost of CNY 57 million. It was the world’s highest Ferris wheel at that time and then was succeeded by the 165 meters high Singapore Flyer, opened to the public officially on March 1, 2008. The Star of Nanchang is about 25 meters higher than the “London Eye” on the banks of the River Thames in London, while at a cost of half of the "London Eye".

Characteristics

The surface of the Star of Nanchang is decorated with about seven thousand LED semiconductor color lamplights. At night the wheel lights up and displays a giant color clock with a diameter of about 153 meters. According to the needs, different kinds of patterns can be set, such as the characters, which reads “Nanchang Welcomes You!” at present, 15 sets of programs have been defaulted. What’s more, the citizens can send text messages to the control system to show the message content on the Ferris wheel as long as the messages within 12 words.

Safety Precaution

Nanchang Star Ferris wheel has the world’s largest clock. The 60 capsules represents the 60 minutes of the time scale. Each of the capsule are equipped with LCD television, air conditioner, fire extinguisher, intercom and lifeline barrel, etc. Tourists can run along the rope in case of any danger. If someone in the capsule is ill, such as the heart disease, he can communicate with the operation control personnel and adjust the transportation speed to let the patients get off the Ferris wheel.
