Poyang Lake, the second Great Lake in China, is the largest freshwater lake which is listed into the international important wetland.
Located in the northern part of Jiangxi Province and the south of the Yangtze River, the basin of the Poyang Lake is formed because of the subsidence of the earth’s crust, which is shaped like a gourd. When the southern rainy season arrives, as the largest freshwater lake in China, Poyang Lake is in the high water period with 9 rivers’ water running into it, which makes Poyang Lake like a magnificent sea. Beside, the fishery products are very rich and the Poyang Lake, the international important wetland, is the important place for the preservation of biodiversity.
Shizhong Mountain
In the southeast coast of Hukou stands the Shizhong Mountain. Although it is only 50 meters high, it has a grand sight because it lies on the cliff. Looking from the boat, Shizhong Mountain looks connected with the sky. Actually, Shizhong Mountain is not a mountain, but two mountains formed by limestone with cave in the lower part of each mountain. Facing the deep pools, when the wind breezes and the water hits the stone, the sound from the cave is like bell, so it is named Shizhong Mountain. The two mountains are separated by 1000 meters. Standing on the two mountains, you can see the majestic and magnificent scene.
In the two mountains, the Xiazhong Mountain is more famous not only for its beautiful artificial landscape but also for its fascinating natural scenery. If taking a boat from the foot of the Shizhong Mountain, you can see the steeply red rock cliff with the pines stretching towards the sky and the submerged rocks exquisite. Looking from the peak, you can see broad and mighty Yangtze River, spilling out. Due to its magnificent scenery, Shizhong Mountain attracts numerous literates leaving many poems.
Rare Bird Kingdom
Because of the warm and humid monsoon, Poyang Lake forms the wet monsoon climate and becomes a famous land of fish and rice. The environment and climatic conditions are suitable for migrant birds. Therefore, each year in late autumn and early winter, tens of thousands of migratory birds fly from Siberia, Mongolia, Russia, Japan, Korea, Northeast China and other places to here to spend their winter. Here is the largest bird sanctuary in the world, especially the largest crane group is found here. So staying here, you can see the rare animals and the splendid scene about thousands of birds flying in the sky.
Wetland Park
On the eastern side of Poyang Lake lies the largest freshwater lake in China. Poyang Lake National Wetland Park is one of the six wetlands in the world, which is the most abundant, beautiful wetland park in Asia. The main bodies of Poyang Lake National Wetland are Poyang Lake, rivers, natural grass, mud flats, islands and pond wetlands landscape. The birds in Poyang Lake National Wetland Park are the favorite for people around the world. Each year, the scene of hundreds of thousands of swans spending the winter is very spectacular.
