Sixi Village is famous for the convergence of four streams from east, south, west and north angles and enjoys a good reputation of the hometown of farmer prints.
Located in the northeast of Shanggao County and 80 km from Nanchang City, Sixi Village is tall to low from the northwest to southeast. Having a long history, Sixi Village is famous for four streams, Hu Stream, Di Stream, Yang Stream and Lin Stream which are gathering here from four angles. So this place is named Sixi (Four Streams in Chinese) Village. Besides, Sixi Village is one of the main battlefields against the Japan. With strong culture, Sixi Village is the birthplace for farmer painting.
Wooden Arch Bridge
The two bridges in Sixi Village are similar in the style, so they are also called Sixi Sister Bridges. The Upper Wooden Arch Bridge was firstly built in 1570, and is over Dong Stream. The Upper Wooden Arch Bridge is 41.7 meters long, 4.86 meters wide and 10.35 meters high. The Under Wooden Arch Bridge across the Bei Stream was built in 1671 and reconstructed in 1803. The length is 51.7 meters, width 5.37 meters and height 11.22 meters. The village here is named after the bridge. The two bridges’ construction is compact, and simple, which are the typical wooden arch bridges in the history of bridge building.
Farmer Painting
The prophase of the farmer printmaking is brushwork painting, which originated in 1970s and gradually evolved into the black-and-white woodcut and colored farmer prints. After the development, the editions of the Sixi farmer print tend to be diverse, paying attention to absorbing the folk form and contenting more rich local breath. The works gradually become perfect and mature, forming the distinctive folk art style. The farmers are busy farming in farming season. In leisure time, they devote their energy to the paintings. The Sixi Village makes full use of the function of print culture, improving the farmers’ cultural quality. With the mature of the farmer print, the farmer print becomes a unique folk art style.
