Sanqing Palace, as a landmark building for Taoism in Sanqing Mountain, is an open-air museum about the ancient Taoist buildings and is sceneries of humanities.

 Located on the Jiulong Mountain in the north of Sanqing Mountain in Jiangxi Province, Sanqing Palace is about 1533 meters above the sea level, which is the symbolic building for Taoism in Sanqing Mountain. Having a long history of 1600 years, Sanqing Palace has more than 230 ancient buildings and cultural relics about temples, palaces, squares, fountains, pools, bridges, tombs, tables, towers and so on, which plays an important role in studying the ancient Taoist architectural building design.

Sanqing Palace Memorial Archway

In front of the gate of Sanqing Palace is a granite stone carved with three block characters San Qing Palace written by Sun Yuanzhen (an official in ancient China), so the palace is named Sanqing Palace. Built in 1456, the arch roof is composed of two complete stones caved the symbolic corrugation. The whole shape is little, dainty and solemn. The distance between the foundations of the pillars on both sides is 1.25 meters wide and the distance between the two pillars is 2.74 meters wide and 4.04 meters high.

Layout

A platform paved with granites is in front of Sanqing Palace. A Stone Incense Burner and a Shixiang Pavilion are built in the north of the platform. The palace has three gates. Five levels are set in front of the middle gate with a rectangular pool named Longquan Pool 2.8 meters long, 1.3 meters wide and 0.25 meters deep. A stone incense pot caved two words Qing Jin (keep quiet in English meaning) is set in the pool. A dragon’s head is caved in the southwest of the pool. A picture of hypericum is caved on the foundation of the stone incense pot in the west of the dragon’s head.

Sanqing Palace Memorial Archway lies in northern center of the platform. The construction and layout of Sanqing Palace is full of magical color. The statues of three Gods are worshipped in the main hall and Buddhist Guanyin and the eighteen Buddhist arhats are worshipped in the back hall. The Taoism and Buddhism can get on well with each other harmoniously, which shows Sanqing Mountain is inclusive and broad-minded.
