Yak Meadow, a part and parcel of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Scenic Area where is reputed as the holy land for sightseeing is settled with Yi and Zang minorities.
Yak Meadow covers an area of 16.6 square kilometers, west depending on the east of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The eye-catching scenic spots on the meadow include the Snowy Valley, the special Yak Glacier, the colorful Meadow and primitive Pine Tree Forest.
What to see
Yak Meadow is a typical meadow pasture. It is a combination of alpine snowfield, slow creek and natural primitive forest. Plus, the high latitude of the meadow will offer tourists a board view of the entire mountain.
Summer prairie
Despite the natural sceneries, Yak Meadow is a prairie for the Tibetan herdsmen settling at the foot of the mountain. During the spring, summer and autumn, they will drive their cattle and sheep to the meadow.
The best place for viewing
Yak Meadow is the best site to enjoy the thirteen peaks of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, as well as the place to shoot the magnificent sunrise and sunset of the mountain. Been called Bannong Kingdom in Naxi language, it means a beautiful snow mountain meadow. Due to the uneven topography, it is more like an oil panting.
The best time to visit
As one part of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, it shares the climate with the mountain of subtropical plateau humid climate. It is dry and cold in the winter with the coldest average temperature of 3.0℃. If you are in favor of the green meadows, April to October is the best months to be here. If you are fond of the snow-covered mountain, then come to in the winter.
Four seasons on the Yak Meadow
The scene on the Yak Meadow of all year round is picturesque so that it has been an incomparable holy land for recreation and sightseeing. In spring, the meadow is filed up with blooming flowers. In summer, the grass looks like a green carpet which lures flocks of sheep. In autumn, all plants are growing luxuriantly. In winter, the meadow is dressed in white snow. The mild edge of the meadow becomes a sharp contrast with the peaks of the snow mountain. The picturesque Yak Meadow is an incomparable holy place for sightseeing and vacationing.
The life of the local people
At the foot of the meadow are several villages in where people lead a simple life. They mainly live on husbandry.
Notice
Belonging to the high elevation of 3,880 meters, it may cause altitude reactions (dizziness or chest tightness) for common people. To slow down or drink some buttered tea will help release the symptoms.
