Mixed geographic landforms endow Kashgar complicated climate pattern. In the city center area, it belongs to the temperate continental climate, with relatively longer summer and shorter winter. Around the Dawakun Desert area, it features a desert climate with hot summer and cold winter. Records have been as low as −24.4 °C (−12 °F) in January and up to 40.1 °C (104.2 °F) in July.
Four Seasons in Kashgar
Spring - Spring in Kashgar is a dry season, with the average temperature ranging from 2.0°C (35.6°F) to 14°C (57.2°F). The big temperature difference between day and night suggests tourists bring more clothes. Although gales and sandstorms frequently hit Kashgar in spring, the scenery during this period is enchanting, especially the Lake Karakuli which appears more beautiful and holy.
Summer - Summer in Kashgar is hot but short, with the average temperature of 16°C-30°C (60.8°F-86°F). Lake Karakuli becomes a little busy for the lakeside has been the ideal site for enjoying the cool.
Fall - Fall is the best season to visit Kashgar because it is neither too hot nor too cold. In additional to the unique atmosphere of autumn, the strong ethnic custom attracts a growing number of visitors.
Winter - Winter is cold and long in Kashgar with the average temperature of -7°C -4°C (19.4°F-39.2°F), which makes the whole city calm down. January is coldest month with the average temperature ranging from −5.3 °C (22.5 °F) in January.
Best Time to Visit
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit Kashgar in spite of the gales and sandstorms in desert area. At the periods, Kashgar is more like a castle in the fairytale which boasts the charming landscapes and strong exotic atmosphere. Hat, jacket, sunglasses are recommended to bring in case of the big temperature difference between day and night.
