Leigong Mountain Nature Reserve

Leigong Mountain Nature Reserve is on the Leigong Mountain, southeast of Guizhou province, and it is located among four counties of Leishan, Rongjiang, Taijiang and Jianhe. The area of Leigong Mountain Nature Reserve is about 50 thousand hectares, and its highest altitude is 2,178 meters, which is the watershed of Qingshui River and Duliou River. Its main protected objects are Taiwania flousiana and its growth environment.

Rare and endangered animals and plants

Leigong Mountain is covered by green vegetation, and with the green coverage of above 90 percent. In the recorded vegetations of 1,390 species, there are 20 listed as national endangered and rare plants, and they are Taiwania flousiana, yew and redpine and so on, which are third generation species grew 2-70 million years ago. There are hundreds of animals like black bear, macaque and giant salamander etc, and Vibrissaphora leishanensis is a new species. Beside those, there are azalea with large area of 1,333 hectares and magnolia of 1,067 hectares. Fruit trees are waxberry, walnuts, cherry, kiwi fruit, peach and plum etc.

Important water source

The Nature Reserve is the important water source in southeast of Guizhou. There are ten rivers flowing into Bala River, Wumi River and Pingjiang River and so on, which are important branches of Qingshui River and Duliou River.

Features in Leigong Mountain

Trees in clothes

Trees like Azalea and magnolia on Leigong Moutain grow above the altitude of 1,600 meters. Tree branch is full of black cover because of low temperature all the year round, and it is like wearing winter clothing. The more attractive scene in early summer is Azalea and magnolia blooming around the mountain and it is very beautiful.

Miao imperial city

About 90 percent of residents lived in Leigong Mountain is Miao nationality. It is said that there was an imperial city located in the Leigongping in the altitude of 1,850 meters, northeast of Leigong Mountain. Now there are rubbles, iron wear and stereobate found here sometimes and there are hundreds of ancient tombs found in original forest dozens of miles away.

A sealed book

There is a bluestone stele on the Leigongping. It is two meters high with inscriptions carved on the stele, but no one can read it though the ages. So it becomes a mysterious sealed book.

Eight Trigram Forest

It is in the area of Heishui Pool. Once you enter this place, and you would not judge the directions because of undulating mountains here and towering forests, like entering in an Eight Trigram that makes you are at a loss.

Water lily pool

It is so called because there are nine peaks resembling petals of water lily, and with a small mountain in the center like stamen.

There also are other scenic spots here such as groups of monkeys, waterfalls and sunrise.
