Leishan is located in the southeast of Guizhou, neighboring to Kaili, Taijiang, Rongjiang and Danzhai counties. Its long-last history endows Leishan splendid culture, especially the traditional folk customs of Miao. Covering an area of 1218.5square kilometers, Leishan is abundant in sightseeing resources.
Attractions
With long history and splendid culture, especially the Miao traditional national culture, Leishan is known as the culture center of Miao. Here are the national nature reserve—Leigong Shan, the home of China’s folk art---Langdeshang Zhai, the No.1 Miaozhai of China---Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village and the settlement of China’s short-skirt Miao--- Nanhua Miao Village. Famous as the largest Miao village in the world, Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village is endowed with strong Miao ethnic feelings. This peerless village has been kept the original ecological culture, which embodies in the lusheng (reed-pipe instrument), bronze, silver, clothing, bullfighting, team song, year dinner and other folk customs.
Transportation
42km away from the capital of the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Leishan has middle buses to Kaili, (Y14.5 for a normal bus, and Y16 for a deluxe bus). The fee of taking a taxi is RMB80-100. In Kaili Bus Station, there are 4 buses departing to the Wind Rain Bridge of Langdeshang Zhai.
Weather
Leishan belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate; it has a pleasant moist climate with ample rainfall. The highest temperature is about 35.6 ℃ and the minimum temperature is -8.9 ℃. Neither hot in summer nor too chilly in winter. However it suffers often sandstorms. Umbrellas and raincoats are the necessities for your trip here.
Food and Restaurant
Having abundant natural non-pollution animals and plants, Leishan possesses the raw materials for offering the special dishes. As a kingdom of mountain vegetables, visitors are supposed to taste the wild food, including Miao Yantang, Xiangyangbie, Mutton with Weicai, etc.

Accommodation
You can stay a night in the Langdeshang Zhai for it is very cheap to live in the wooden buildings of Miao. (10/bed in the upstairs of Yangdaliu Museum)
Folk Custom
Leishan is the national culture center of Miao, the locals still remains their costumes, architecture and the original folk customs which include singing and dancing and the musical instruments. It is just an alive "Miao cultural history textbook".
There are three kinds of dance in Miaozhai: bronze drum dance, wooden drum dance and lusheng dance, and there are also three songs: MiaoFei song, Biefu song (Miao narrative epic), Youfang song. Here in Leishan visitors will enjoy a concentration of Chinese agricultural civilization development.
Tips
1.Refuse at first if you are not good at drinking vine when eating in the local family.
2. Don’t point with the index finger.
3. Rattan hats should be taken off when you entering the local houses.
4. Crossing legs is not allowed in the Miaozhai.
