Guangzhou Transportation

As the capital city of Guangdong province, Guangzhou is the traffic hub of Southern China with a well-developed net of highways, railways, waterway and air transportations. Besides, traveling within the city is also convenient thank to its public transport of city buses, undergrounds and taxis.

Flag Fall CNY 7 2.6 / mile

This is the most popular way for foreigners to get around, and it is very affordable. The flag-fall price of taxis is CNY7 within 2.3 kilometers and additional fee is CNY2.6 per kilometer thereby. Depend on the taxi operators, CNY1 fuel surcharge is now added. The taxi hot line is 96900. This comes in handy if you forget your valuables in a taxi. Save your receipt because it contains the taxi's identification number.

Most taxi drivers do not speak English or any other foreign languages, so be sure to have the name and address of your destination written in Chinese to show your taxi driver.

The Guangzhou Baiyun Airport situated 28 kilometers from the urban area of the Guangzhou. There flights to every part of China and some overseas cities such as Vietnam, Laos, Burma, India, Singapore and so on.

Eight shuttle bus routes between the airport and the city to meet all passenger's needs, and it costs CNY20 one way. If you want to take a taxis, it price ranking from CNY90 to CNY150 depending on the size of the taxis and the distance to your destination.

 Long-Distance Bus


Highway system is well-developed, making Guangzhou connected with different cities and counties in and out of Guangdong Province. Currently, there are 20 big long-distance bus stations in Guangzhou including Provincial Bus Station, Fangcun Bus Station, Guangzhou Passenger Transport Center, Tianhe Bus Station and Yuexiu South Bus Station and some more.

 City Bus


There is also a comprehensive public bus service that covers Guangzhou from end to end. By far, it is the cheapest way to move around. Bus fares are CNY1 for the older buses and CNY2 for the air-conditioned ones, while CNY3 for air-conditioned buses and CNY1.5 for general ones at night. Most city buses in Guangzhou are self-service buses, so be ready to bring your change. On-board announcements are made in Mandarin, Cantonese and sometimes English.

 

 Train


Guangzhou has two main railway stations: Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou East Railway Station. Guangzhou Railway Station neighbors Provincial Bus Station opposite to Liuhua Hotel, providing trains to Beijing, Wuhan, Nanjing, Chengdu, Xian, Lhasa as well as many other cities. Subway No.2 and city bus 272 can reach here.

Guangzhou East Railway Station connects Guangzhou with Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Changsha and son on. Subway No.1 and No.3 can reach here.
 

 Subway


Guangzhou's metro system opened in 1999 and has been expanding at a breakneck pace ever since. The network covers much of the city center and is growing rapidly outward. The fare ranges from CNY2 to CNY12. Most of the signs and announcements are also available in English. Tickets can be bought from vending machines in the stations. Bills from CNY5 - CNY10 or coins from CNY0.5 - CNY1 are accepted at these machines. A compensation fare is required if you stay in the underground over 3 hours.

Guangzhou Port is made up of Humen Port, Xinsha Port, Huangpu Port and many other inner ports, operating ship routes connects Guangzhou with hundreds of ports including domestic ports and abroad ports. Frequent ferry boats to Hong Kong daily served in Panyu Lotus Mountain Port. And Nansha Port offers ships to Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal in Macau.
