As the only professional theater for opera and ballet in Beijing, Tianqiao Theatre is a distinguished hot spot in south Beijing. It was often visited by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Tianqiao Theater is located at the south end of Qianmen Avenue in traditional central axis of Beijing. Neighboring Temple of Heaven, Liulichang Culture Street and many other culture organizations, it is the only professional theater for opera and ballet in Beijing equipped with multi-functional stage and high-level lighting and audio system.
The theater was initially built in 1953 as the first one after China was founded. The present one was restored in 2001 with high-level architectural and electronic acoustics and lighting design, which can meets the need of large-scale dance, drama and symphonic performances. The Royal Ballet, Pavarotti and many other famous art organizations and artists have their performances at here.
Inner Structure
The theater is composed of five parts. From east to west, they are respectively the square, Lobby, Auditorium, Stage and Swan Lake Hotel. Equipped with not only advanced lighting, sound and machinery system but also building automation system, security monitoring as well as comfortable lounge, it can be called a luxury theater in Beijing.
The cultural square in front of the theatre covers an area of 2,000 square meters and becomes a center for the local people’s activity. With a large space and elegant atmosphere, the lobby is an ideal place to hold large-scale culture events and celebration parties. The three-storey Auditorium can host 1215 seats and VIP retiring room is available on the first and second floor. The elegant multi-functional hall is able to hold 50 people, suitable for small press conferences, receptions and ceremonies.
Aiming to become a palace for performing arts, and a window for cultural exchanges, Tianqiao Theater is an ideal venue for arts troupes from China and all over the world.
