Quanjude, Peking Duck Specialist since 1864, is the most famous roast duck restaurant in China. As a time honored brand, the restaurant is well known for its longstanding culinary heritage.

Quanjude, a food chain specializing in Peking Roast Duck, is a time honored brand in China established in 1864. The founder is Yang Shoushan (1822-1890) and his successor Yang Mingquan invented the “Hanging Roast Duck”, making the restaurants more famous. Quanjude indicates perfection, union, benevolence and virtue as QUAN means perfection, JU means gathering together and DE means virtues.

Today, the chain has many branches in Beijing and even China. There is a saying in Beijing which goes that “You're not a courageous man until you've been to the Great Wall and it’s a pity if you haven’t tried roast duck”. Among the many branches, Qianmen Branch Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurant is the most famous one as it is the place where the business starts.

Features

Peking Roast Duck is the specialist of Quanjude and the whole progress of choosing, feeding, killing and roasting has strict rules. The ducks are Peking ducks which are younger than 100 days and weigh 2.5 kilograms. A hole is digging under the right wing to take out the viscus and wash it clean. The hole is filled with water when the duck is roasted. Therefore, the duck is fresh and crispy. After the meal, the waiter will give you a postcard indicating the number of the duck they have sold since the establishment of the restaurant.
