Beijing Liyuan Theater, a tea-type theater, is the first theater in China insisting on playing Beijing Opera perennially, which can hold thousands of people.

Beijing Liyuan Theater is the first art hall in Beijing operated by Beijing Qianmen Hotel and Beijing Peking Opera Theater. The Chinese quintessence Beijing Opera is performed by the artists in here. Visitors can taste the Chinese snacks and tea when they are watching the performances, which is really a wonderful art enjoyment. The theater provides English subtitles for foreign visitors and each year attracts over 300 thousands visitors to enjoy Beijing opera.

Location and Halls

Built in 1990 and located in Xuanwu District, Beijing Liyuan Theater consists of the performance hall, the exhibition hall and the sales department. The stage is 8 meters high, 12 meters wide and 7 meters deep with about 800 seats. Similar to the traditional opera garden practice, the audiences can enjoy all kinds of Beijing snacks and tea when they are enjoying the opera performances. The exhibition hall displays the development history about 200 years of the art of Beijing Opera. In the sales department, visitors can buy souvenirs and take photos in costume.

Decoration

The decoration of the theater stage has an antique flavor. A giant facial makeup is hung on the wall in the audience hall. In front of the hall, the Ming-style tables and chairs are put, which seems simple but elegant. The area in the back and on the second floor are put the stacked chairs. The people in here will be provided the tea and dried or fresh fruits during the show time.

Performances

The performances in Liyuan Theater give priority to the ornamental performances, such as BuGi, Monkey Show, and the opera strong in dance. Even though the people know nothing about the Beijing Opera, they still can be interested in the performance. The traditional opera is their perennial performance.
