Located in the west of Kaili City, Kaili Sunday Market is famous for its traditional handicrafts and worth a visit as you can experience the local ethnic lifestyle of the Miao and Dong People.
Kaili Sunday Market is situated in the west of Kaili City. Every Sunday, the Miao and Dong People from the encompassing villages head to the market to sell varieties of products such as their artworks and craftwork, jewelry, herbs, clothing, fresh food, vegetables, fruits, musical instruments and livestock. Hundreds of shops, stalls and processing shops are thronged in the market. Although the road here looks bumpy and the streets are narrow, the market is always full of live.
Since the Miao and Dong people live nearby, when you walking on the streets, you can shopping as well as enjoy the beautiful dresses of the local ethic people. However, it is difficult to see a local people dress in traditional costumes, for a whole set of the silver ornament from head to toe take hours to put everything on. They dress formally on big festivals usually. On this Sunday market, you might have chance to see few of them.
What it sells
Delicate embroidery, silk, silver jewelry, earrings and all sorts of decoration items as well as the beautiful traditionally dress of Miao girls are provided here. You can also find the Han people dressed in the market and the kites, pottery jars, paper money and incense. It is not only a tourist attraction but a real market for local people.
Seasonal fruits and vegetables are available here. Apples, pears, bananas, kiwi fruit and so on can be found in this market. Different kinds of herb also provided here, such as the root ginger, wood ginger, etc.
Miao and Dong people in Kaili
Kaili is a minority localities and many Miao and Dong people live here. They usually live in a wooden building, called Diaojiaolou, which is high above the ground. The people here can dance and sing well. Especially in the Lusheng Festival, you can experience the national elegant of Kalli people.
