Kaili Folk Museum, a landmark building in Kaili City, is the largest public cultural construction in Northeastern Guizhou which combines the Miao and Dong architectural styles together.

 Located in the cultural square on Shaoshan Road, Kaili City, Guizhou Province, Kaili Folk Museum covers an area of 11,000 square meters with the construction area of 7,421 square meters. As a landmark building in Kaili City, Kaili Folk Museum melts the Miao and Dong architectural art styles as a whole, which is a center for the collection of national culture, protection and research. Kaili Folk Museum has more than 12,000 collections about the ethnic costumes, ancestor worship tools and daily appliances in Miao and Dong during Yuan (1271-1368), Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasty. Only four exhibition halls are open for the public. Dragon exhibition hall and Minority Costume exhibition hall are the two places which attract visitors mostly.

Pavilion Museum Structure

Kaili Folk Museum has a more detailed introduction about the geography and customs of ethnic minorities through words, pictures and objects. The architectural forms of the museum have quite national characteristics. The central tower adopts the drum and double eaves form of Dong ethnic group and the west eastern tower uses the Miao building form which clearly tell people here is the hometown for Miao and Dong.

Exhibition Halls

The first floor is used as a place for furniture. The exhibition hall is on the second and third floors, including Northeastern Guizhou Pavilion, Minority Museum, Minority Costume Museum, Dragon Pavilion and Modern Folk Art Museum. Dragon Boat Race is a traditional and very popular festival here, so it is necessary to visit the Dragon Pavilion which helps you learn about the history of the Dragon Boat Race and see the refined and exquisite models of the dragon boats. Another museum you should visit is Minority Costume Museum in which you also can appreciate the difference between Yao and Dong about their customs, clothes, and foods and so on.
