Guizhou Provincial Museum, a provincial level comprehensive museum in China, shows the important historical and cultural relics in Guizhou Province.

 As a provincial level comprehensive museum in China, Guizhou Provincial Museum is located in Beijing Road, Guiyang City, covering an area of 19,300 square meters. The cultural relic’s collection and specimens are more than 60,000 pieces. The ethnic cultural relics are one of the most important museum collections. The contents of the display focus on the historical relics, showing the important historical and cultural relics.

The Precious Collections - Fossil

One of a large number of tapir fossils unearthed from Qing County, Guizhou Province is the most complete Southern China giant tapir fossil, which fills the tapir fossil blank in Guizhou Province. The unearthed bones about deer in the same batch also have great exhibition and collection value. Once, a lot of tapirs lived in Guizhou Province. However, only a small piece of jaw fossil is collected in museum. The tapir fossils play an important role in studying the paleontological resources. Experts say that the tapirs can date back to 100,000 to 10,000 years and they live extensively.

Collective Relics

The collection of cultural relics and specimen is more than 60,000 pieces. The unearthed human fossils include incisor, premolar, maxillary, demur, skull, jaw, extinct species of mammals and various typical stones, and bones. The ethnic heritage is one of the museum collections. The embroideries, batiks, brocades, silvers and so on are more than 1000 pieces. The marriage record tally about Miao, the female bodysuits with embroidered edge and silver pendants in Miao and the robes in Yi all are collected in the Guizhou Provincial Museum. The printing press and the leaflets used by the Red Army are still collected in here. The calligraphies and paintings in Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasty are more than 3000 pieces.

Special Activity

The intangible cultural heritage is showed in the exhibition hall. The technologies also are displayed in the hall. The ethnic song and dance performances are showed regularly in the Guizhou Provincial Museum.
