The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar is the biggest Bazaar in scale over the world. It is constructed in an Islamic style and is a significant landmark in Xinjiang.

"Bazaar" means market in the Uygur language. It plays important role in communication and commercial trading of Xinjiang. The Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar was completed on 26th June, 2003 in Urumqi. The area of Grand Bazaar is 39,888 m², and Grand Bazaar has an 80-meter sight-seeing tower, an open mosque, an opera theater. In addition, there are 3,000 stalls and individual shops, an underground parking lot, etc.

Grand Bazaar not only covers building’s functionality and sense of the times, but reproduces commercial flourish of Silk Road. Its preponderant ethnic characteristics and regional culture have a strong influence on the Central Asia and the Middle East.

Tallest Sight-seeing Tower in Xinjiang

With the height of 80 meters, the Tallest Sight-seeing Tower in Xinjiang is a landmark building in Urumqi. Its first floor is sightseeing stand, and its area is 216.5 m²; the second floor is a bar, and there are pictures and introductions of “the top ten mysteries of Xinjiang” and ethnic national customs on the wall of the bar. Tourists can experience the local conditions and customs through these pictures.

Tourism Handicraft

Tourism handicraft products stores are located in the International Grand Bazaar Happy Square. What stores sell especially are kinds of tourism souvenirs, such as tapestry, jade carving (Xinjiang is known as Hetian jade) and Uygur-style hats and costumes etc. which are designed by professional designers on the basis of Xinjiang characteristic culture, and each one has its deep culture background. Beautiful handicrafts’ quality is good and has a collection value.

Characteristic Food

The International Grand Bazaar Food Square has an area of 3,225 m². It gathers China classic food of 56 ethnic minorities, and you can taste Xinjiang characteristic food, such as roast whole lamb, Xinjiang kebabs, noodles with soy sauce and sesame butter, zhuafan (a kind of rice popular among believers in Islam) and bone soup etc.

Wonderful Performances

The International Grand Bazaar Banqueting Hall is in a capacity of 1,000 people to eat at the same time. It changed the traditional way that several person to eat in a round table, but separately eat by dishes. Tourists can taste the characteristic food while watching the song and dance performances.

Grand Bazaar has integrated Islamic culture, architecture, ethnic trade and business, entertainment and repast. It is the gathering place and demonstration center of Xinjiang tourism products. It is the “Window of Xinjiang”, “Window of Central Asia”
and “Window of the World”.
