Yuquan Park, also named Black Dragon Pool Park, is rated for its water which is as sparkling as jade. Covered with green grass, it is a nice place for a look especially in spring.
Located at the foot of Xiangshan Mountain, north of Lijiang Old Town, Yuquan Park is also named Heilongtan Park (Black Dragon Pool Park) which derives the name from the pool where flows the spring water as crystal as jade.
The inner Yuquan Park contains many ancient buildings such as Dragon God Temple, Moon-catching Pavilion, Suocui Bridge, Fuguo Temple and Five Phoenixes Pavilion.
Fuguo Temple
Built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Fuguo Temple was the villa and home temple for Mu Tusi (the chieftain of Naxi people). It is recorded that Mu Tusi had met the famous Ming geographer Xu Xiake in this temple.
Dragon God Temple
Being the main building in Yuquan Park, Dragon God Temple is composed of Drama Stage and Moon-catching Pavilion, distributed at a harmonious and changeable principle axis. It is an enormous courtyard attached with four rooms and five yards. Temple gate, left and right-wing rooms and main hall are included which show you a sense of royal court. Every March, when the weather is delightful, the local community gathers at the Dragon God Temple to pray for good. The emerald spring waters are famous for their curative powers, whether for stomach troubles or to enhance your complexion.
Five Phoenixes Pavilion
Perched at the north bank of Yuquan Park, the Five Phoenixes Pavilion is a flagship among the old Naxi architectures. Built in Wanli period of Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it is a blend of Han, Tibetan and Naxi styles, which is a 20 meters high pavilion with three fold octagon cornices. Seen from any angles, it resembles five rousant phoenixes. Hence the name Five Phoenixes Pavilion.
