Being a component of the world cultural heritage in Lijiang, Mural in Baisha Village illustrates the detailed culture of Dongba which mingles Buddhism, Taoism and Lamaism into one picture.

Mural in Baisha Village, located in the Baisha Village, about 10 miles away from the Lijiang Old Town, is an important part for the tour in Lijiang. Drew in the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it stores 44 pieces of murals in total, specializing in the religious stories. It is a vivid crystallization combining the Naxi, Tibetan, Bai and Han styles. It is beyond comparison from other religious paintings in China.

Baisha Village

North to the magnificent Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Baisha Village is the initial settlement for Naxi people, also the birthplace of “Tusi” (the chieftain of a clan) from Mu clan. This town owes many fascinating things such as the small bridge over flowing stream, blue sky and warm sunshine in Lijiang Old Town, but differently, it has the quiet that Lijiang doesn’t have. The Naxi people stayed here have kept the traditional lifestyle for thousand years.

Murals

Displayed in three-yard architecture, murals in different yards are diverse.

The First Yard

The first yard is a depositary of Buddhist texts. Instruments performances are given here. Among them the Baisha Fine Music has attracted large number of visitors.

The Second Yard

The murals in the second yard are the earliest works during that period. Displayed in a colored glaze hall, the murals appear to be shinning,

The Third Yard

There are 12 murals in the yard showed in the Dabao Palace. Being well-preserved, they embody the highest skill among the Lijiang Frescos.
