Jingdezhen city lies in the Northeast of Jiangxi Province, directly to the southeast of Dongzhi County in Anhui Province. It now covers an area of 5256 square kilometers with a population of 1,565,100. It maintains jurisdiction over one city, one county and two districts: Leping City, Fuliang County, Zhushan District and Changjiang District.
History
As the world-famed ceramic capital, Jingdezhen City has a long history of ceramics making and a rich cultural heritage. In accordance with the historical records, “Xinping (as the city was known as then) began to make pottery in Han Dynasty”. It is evident that pottery was first made in Jingdezhen in Han Dynasty. In the first year in Jingde Reign of Song Dynasty (1004), the royal court decreed the city made porcelain wares for imperial use with the wording “Made during the Jingde Reign” printed on the bottom of every piece. Hence the city got its name “Jingdezhen”.
Attractions
When it comes to Jingdezhen, there is no denial of reminding the porcelain which is known internationally for being "as thin as paper, as white as jade, as bright as a mirror, and as sound as a bell". Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum, Jingdezhen Ceramic History Exhibition Area and Ancient Sanlu Temple Street display various porcelains.
Sanqing Shan, a magnificent hill enjoys the fame of “the No.1 Fairy Hill in Jiangnan”. Wuyuan, the most beautiful countryside in China has a peaceful rural landscape.
Transportation
By air: Jingdezhen Airport, located at Luojian Village, northwest of Jingdezhen city, and about 8 km from the city's downtown. It services more than 20 air lines and connects the city with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities around the country.
By train: The railway station links Jingdezhen and many other cities all around the country and handles thousands of passengers every day.
Weather
Jingdezhen has a four-season, monsoon-influenced, humid subtropical climate, with somewhat brief, cool and damp winters, and long, very hot and humid summers. Extreme maximum temperatures of above 40 °C (104 °F) have been recorded, as have extreme minimums below −5 °C (23 °F).

Jingdezhen is a wealth of bamboo crafts including tablemats, chairs, vases and other attractive items. Other specialties include lacquer wares, Shu Brocade, silk tapestry and silverwares.
