Great Wall Museum

Great Wall Museum is located in the west of Jiayuguan. Covering an area of 12,312 square meters with and exhibition area of about 1,766 square meters, Great Wall Museum is the first museum to exhibit the Great Wall culture comprehensively and systematically. It was built in the end of 1988 and opened to the public in October 1989. The main building is shaped like a beacon tower, which seems connected with the Great Wall. The main building held a display of Great Wall, which is rich in content and exquisite in design. With a large number of words, data, photos, electrical molds and entities, the great wall was displayed vividly and comprehensively.

The Great Wall Museum sets seven exhibition halls. There are more than 7,000 cultural relics of different periods are excavated including the ancient weapons, equipments, pictures and books about great wall. “Changchenggongpai”, “Yongletongpao”, and “Jiayuguan guanzhaoyinfan” are valuable materials in the study of the history and culture of the Great Wall. With its visual form and rich collection of content, Great Wall Museum is renowned as “ the textbook of Great Wall”.

The Main Exhibition Hall

The main exhibition hall is divided into four parts according to the different periods, including the Great Wall in the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring Period (770-221), the Great Wall in Qin (221-206) Dynasty and Han Dynasty (202-220), the Great Wall in Sui (581-619), Tang (618-907), Liao (907-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) Dynasty, and the Great Wall in Ming (1368-1644) Dynasty. With diagrams, words and photos, the history of the Great Wall over 3,000 years and 50,000 kilometers is concentrated on this exhibition hall with 1,100 square meters vividly. The Great Wall Museum is not only show the valuable material to the scholars but provides integrated and direct knowledge to visitors.

The Long Oil Painting

With a length of 21 meters and a width of 10.5 meters, the long oil painting is the largest painting in the northwestern and concentrated the landscape of the Great Wall in this scroll with the freehand brushwork and realistic technique expression.
