Boasting of peaceful and tranquil surroundings of clear water, green mountain, flat beach, seashore bathing place, golf course, tennis hall, and health center, Bangchui Island is a famous attraction welcoming guests from both home and abroad.
Located at the eastern end of Binhai Road, about five kilometers southeast of Dalian downtown, Bangchui Island is a famous tourist attraction with hills in three sides and a vast sea and flat beach in the south. It is a famous scenic spots combining hills, sea, islet and beach. It was so named because a small isle erects in the sea as if a wooden club seen from a distance. In Chinese, bangchui is a kind of wooden club commonly used by the local ladies to assist in washing their cloth.
Legend
Where the wooden club-shaped islet comes from? A beautiful legend story tells visitors the reason. It is said that a charming flower grows in the backyard garden of the Jade Emperor, the Supreme Deity of Taoism. A fresh breeze blew the fruit down to the mortal world when the flower grown up. The fruit of the flower turned into a pretty girl and was called Fairy Bangchui. After known these, the Jade Emperor ordered the Fairy Bangchui back to the heaven. In memory of the beautiful scenery of Dalian, she threw the favorite hairpin into the sea. Later the hairpin turned into the small island, hence called Bangchui Island.
Bangchuidao Hotel
The well-known Bangchuidao Hotel is the only state guest house in Dalian equipped with the golf course, the tennis hall, the health center, swimming pool and so on. Covering an area of 87 hectares, the hotel is mainly used as the accommodation for leaders and holding large-scale important conferences. Many famous leaders from home and abroad once took their journey to Dalian and lived in Bangchuidao Hotel, including beloved Premier Zhou Enlai (the first Premier of the People's Republic of China).
