Fuyun Travel Guide

Situated at northeast of Junggar Basin in Xinjiang, Fuyun County borders Mongolia in the north. It is a Natural Mineral Museum covering an area of 32,237 km². The 82,900 population is composed by 29 nationalities among which Kazak takes 65%.
 

History

Fuyun was governed by ethnic groups in ancient times. It was under the administration of Xiongnu in Han Dynasty and Tujue in Sui and Tang Dynasty. Different tribes occupied here in successive dynasties. The county was set up in 1950.
 

Attractions

The county boasts many tourist attractions such as Koktokay National Geopark, Multi-Colored Bay and Tangbala Rock Carving.

Koktokay National Geopark is the origin of the Irtysh River. It is an ideal place for sightseeing, vacation, hiking, photography and scientific expedition. Multi-Colored Bay composed of dozens of colorful hills is famous for its imposing views as well as natural treasure. Tangbala Rock Carving reflects the life of maternal society which was 6000 years ago.
 

Transport

Urumqi Airport is 17 km from city center and you can take a taxi or No. 51 bus to Nianzigou Bus station. There are two buses to Fuyun bus station which is located at Yingbin Road. The inquiry is 0906-8722529. The bus leaves at 11am and 17 pm and the cost is about CNY110.
 

Weather and Climate

Fuyun is the second coldest place in China with a continental cold temperate climate. It is windy and rainless with an annual average temperature of 1.8��. There is much difference in temperature between day and night.
 

Food and Restaurants

Almost all the restaurants in Fuyun are Muslim since the Kazak believe in Islam. Generally speaking, the hotels you live in offer food but you can also go to the local families to taste local snacks like hand-grabbed lamb, Zhuafan and Nang.
 

Shopping

Local products include Snow Lotus, Hetian Jade, grape, almond and cherry tomato.
