China Luyi International Lao-tzu Cultural Festival will be held at the end of May in Luyi County, Zhoukou City of Henan Province. This festival is designated to further develop and popularize the sprit of Taoism and Lao-Tzu.
Taoism and Lao_tzu Cultural Festival
Lao-tzu, the founder of Taoism, was born in Luyi county thousands of years ago during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Period. At the times of Lao-tzu, Taoist belief was consisted primarily of worship of the heavens and of ancestors, including the philosophy of Yin and Yang and the Tai Chi Chuan. Still, Daoism pays homage to Lao-tzu as the founder of Chinese Daoism and continues to address him respectfully as Senior Lord Taishang. His masterpiece is Tao te Ching (Way Virtue Classic), which is well-known all over the world.
The Lao-Tzu Cultural Festival is a cultural activity combined with tourism, pilgrimages and folk temple fairs. During the festival, an opening ceremony themed by harmony between humans and nature will be held, and great shows and performances will be provided for visitors. Whats more, an international forum will also be held to popularize the spirit of Daoism and harmony, as well as the affluent cultural heritage of Luyi County in Zhoukou. And there are still numerous activities for visitors to take part in.
Luyi County, located at the eastern part of Henan Province, has a long history with rich cultural heritage. According to the legend, Taichu Holy Palace in this county was the place for Lao-tzu to write Tao Te Ching.
