Jinan Travel Guide

As the capital city of Shandong Province, Jinan neighbors Mt. Taishan to the south and lies on the Yellow River in the north. Jinan is rich in springs, 72 springs scattered around the city. With a total area of 8177 square kilometers, the city carries a population of 600 million.

The city has a history of more than 2600 years as one of the important origins of Chinese civilization. During the earlier year of Han Dynasty, Jinan Prefecture was set up, hence the name “Jinan”. Jinan became the capital city of Shandong Province in Ming Dynasty, making it the political center of Shandong since then.
 

Jinan Attractions

With the laudatory title of “Spring City”, Jinan is endowed with a great number of springs, including the most famous four -- Baotu Spring, Black Tiger Spring, Five Dragons’ Pool, and Pearl Spring. Among these Baotu Spring is reputed as “the First Spring under the Heaven”. As one of the top scenic spots in Jinan, Lake Daminghu has been the gathering place of celebrities throughout history. Apart from these beautiful sceneries, some historical remains and religious sites are also worthy of a visit. Thousand Buddha Mountain with many temples and numerous Buddhist sculptures serves as a natural screen for Jinan city.

Food in Jinan belongs to Shandong cuisine, which is strict with its cutting and slicing skill, duration and degree of heating, flavour, color, smell, taste and shape. Soup-stock is an important feature of Jinan cuisine.
