Haikou Transportation
Haikou is a transport hub that not only connects Hainan to other parts of China but also other major international cities in Asia. There is an airport, a railway system, and a port that further facilitates getting there and away. In the city center it is possible to get around quickly and easily using both taxis and buses.

The flag-fall rate of taxis is 10RMB within 3km, and additional fee charged from 1.8RMB to 2RMB. The city of Haikou is very small, so about 20RMB is enough to anywhere within the city.
Located in Meilan Town of Qiongshan City, Haikou Meilan International Airport is about 25 km from Haikou downtown. There are domestic flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Harbin, Hong Kong and Macau and international flights to Bangkok and Singapore as well. It only takes you about 30 minutes' drive from the airport to downtown Haikou.
Shuttles buses between the airport and Minhang Hotel serve starting from 6:00am every half hour. It takes about 40minites and cost 15RMB per person.

Long Distance Bus
There are four bus stations in Haikou, Hainan Bus Terminal mainly operates buses going to other provinces and other stations run buses within Hainan. Hainan Bus Terminal is located at No.10 Xiuying Avenue and offering buses to Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong and Guangxi.
Apart from the main station, there are three other bus stations with buses going to different directions. South Station has a lot of buses going to Wenchang, Qionghai, Wanning, Lingshui, Xinglong and Sanya. West Station has buses going to Zhanzhou, Dongfang and Wuzhishan.
It takes about 12 hours and costs 138RMB from Haikou to Guangzhou. And to Sanya through the East Highway, 3 hours is enough.
City Bus
City buses charges 1RMB minimum and most of them are self - service ticketing buses. Tour bus 1 and 2 departures from Wugong Temple to some scenic spots cost 4RMB whole journey. There also have some especial tour buses called “"Xin Mei Lan” operate among the main tourist attractions. Line A and Line B can take visitors to QiongTai Academy, Wugong Temple, Former Residence of Hairui, Wanlu Park, Hairui Tomb and Xiuying Ancient Emplacement etc. The price is 5RMB.
Haikou Railway Station is located nearby the seaside, about 20 km from downtown. Trains running between Sanya and Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing all take a stopover at Haikou.
If you take a train on Guangzhou - Hainan railway, the train will only drop you off at Leizhou Peninsular, then you will have to take a shit to Haikou from there.
Due to its hot temperature and strong sunlight, bicycle is not recommended when visiting Haikou in case of sunstroke and sunstroke. Motorcycle taxis and city buses are convenient in the city of Haikou.
As the coastal city, Haikou has two ports: New Port (Xing Gang) and Xiuying Port. New Port offers ferryboats between Zhanjiang Port and Hai’an Port. And Xiuying Port operates routes to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai’an, Shekou, Beihai, Hong Kong, etc.
