Haikou is situated at the north area of Hainan Province with Qiongzhou Strait to the north, Wenchang to the east and Chengmai County to the west. Living in Haikou is tranquil, leisurely and comfortable. As the capital city of Hainan, Haikou possesses an area of 2,305 square kilometers with a total population of 2,040,000.
With a history of nearly 1000 years, Haikou has formed the corresponding scale since opening the port in Northern Song Dynasty. The city of Haikou was established in 1926 and liberated in 1950. In 1988, Hainan Province was set up, making Haikou the capital as well as the political, culture, communication center of this area.
