Nine Dragon Cave Scenic Area

Nine Dragon Cave Scenic Area is located on the Kwan-yin Mountain, 17 km east of Tongren city. It is backing on the Six Dragon Mountain, with the Jin River in front of it. It is the first batch to be listed in the top ten Scenic Areas in Guizhou. It includes three big scenic areas, and they are Nine Dragon Cave, Six Dragon Mountain Scenic Area and Jin River Scenic Area. Nine Dragon Cave is the main scenic spot.

Nine Dragon Cave

Nine Dragon Cave is a large natural Karst cave. Its area is totally 80 thousand ?, and the cave is 2,284 meters long. There are seven halls in the cave, and now the four is open to the public. There are over hundred of stone pillars and stalagmites here. There is one pillar with the height of 44.71 meters and the diameter of 16.4 meters, and it is recognized as “the highest pillar in the world”.

Nine Dragon Cave Scenic Area consists of scenery inside the cave, Kwan-yin Temple, Liantai Peak, Malong Creek, and Cave with Cold Wind and Hot Wind.

Scenery inside the cave

There has a wide view in the cave and stalagmites scenery in different poses and with different expressions. With the music and light decorated, you can appreciate the scenery from different angles, and you will have different feelings from sense of sight, sense of touch and hearing sense.

Cave with Cold Wind and Hot Wind is outside the Nine Dragon Cave with 1,500 meters away. There are two natural small caves. One is cold wind vent and another one is hot wind vent. With a short distance between two caves, it is very rare in the world to see vents like these coexisted as the some time.

Liantai Peak is on the Kwan-yin Mountain. With cliffs and precipices around, there is only one stone path leading to Liantai Peak. Climbing up the peak, picturesque Jin River, rolling mountains, and creeks running through the valleys are all in your eyes.
Kwan-yin Temple provides a place for local people and tourists to experience the Buddhism culture.

Legend

The outstanding pillar in the cave is “Nine Dragons winding with the Pillar”. It is said that there were six yellow dragons who invited three green dragons in Jin River to meet together. They came to the cave, while seeing such a beautiful cave, they all wanted to take the cave as their own, and began to dispute without stopping. Until the day break, they all could not come back to their home, and they had to enwind themselves in a huge colorful pillar in the cave, and never got out. There was a creek under the mountain. As nine dragons disputed without stopping, which bothered the local’s life, they scolded the dragons. So there had these names of “Nine Dragons winding with the Pillar”, “scold Dragon’s Creek” and “Nine Dragon Cave”.

Six Dragon Mountain Scenic Area

It is located in the southeast of Tongren city, about 18 km away. With its 86 percent of forest cover, Six Dragon Mountain has cloud and mist around all year. There are hundreds of wild animals here like wild boar, hedgehog, aegagrus, bamboo partridge, rhizomyid, and kind of snakes and so on. There are four valleys with steep cliffs and lots of waterfalls, karst caves blanketed in dense forest. Here is a paradise for explorers. This is a natural oxygen bar and a summer resort. Meanwhile, this is a good place to appreciate snow scenery in winter. It is praised as “the back garden of Tongren city”.

Jin River Scenic Area

Jin River Scenic Area has the most beautiful sceneries in Tongren city. Jin River is converged by a big river and a small river, which are all originated from the east of Fanjin Mountain, which has many famous peoples here. Along the river, there are 12 scenic spots, several of them has been the scenic reserves.
