Dandong is located in the frontier of Northeast of China, at the Northwest bank of Yalu River in the Southeast of Liaoning Province. It is on the border between China and North Korea, marked by the Yalu River. Also at this point, the river flows into Korea Bay.
History
In history, Dandong always took military importance due to its location. Dandong city, named as Andong city before 1965. In Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) it was under the jurisdiction of Liaodong state. After 1689, Qing Dynasty toke the frontier development policy, this region developed gradually. The city was named Dandong in 1965 for the meaning of a red eastern city.
Attraction
As a stronghold in history, Dandong is rich in historical sites, military remains as well as natural landscapes. Local attractions include Yalujiang Scenic Resort, Jinjiangshan Park, Korean War Memorial, Wulongshan Scenic Resort and so on.
One landmark of Dandong is Hushan Great Wall, which marks the eastern end of the start of the Ming Dynasty's extension to the Great Wall. Yalujiang Bridge (also called The China-Korea Friendship Bridge) is a must-see for historical value, and it is the connection between China and South Korea.

By air: Dandong Langtou Airport is located in Langtou Town, 14 km south to the urban area. Climate and Weather
The city of Dandong is located in middle latitudes of Eurasia, enjoying a warm temperate moist monsoon climate. It has four distinct seasons due to the influence of monsoon.
