Resonant Sand Bay

Known also as "yinken resonant sand gorge" among the local people, Resonant Sand Bay is a desert surrounded by the grasslands. “Yinken” in Mongolian means “eternal”. It is located in the east side of Kubuqi Desert, China's seventh largest desert, about 50 kilometers north to Baotou in Ordos City. With its unique desert landscape and the whispering sand dunes, Resonant Sand Bay attracts many tourists every year at home and abroad.

Overview

Resonant Sand Bay is shaped like a crescent with more than 80 meters in height, 400 meters in width and spans several kilometers. Lying under the blue sky and white clouds, the Resonant Sand Bay looks like a golden color lying dragon, which is spectacular and magnificent. The bending sand slope rises out of the surrounding desert at a 45 degree. People will hear fantastic buzz, just like the sand’s whisper if they surf along the slopes of the dunes in the condition of the dry climate. If several people are surfing together, the sound will be as loud as the automobile and aircraft engines. Since it is unique and mysterious, Resonant Sand Bay has developed into a recreational area with restaurants, hotels, and recreational activities to cater to the needs for different tourists.

Legend

For thousands of years, scientists and scholars made researches and come up with many theories trying to explain the sound. However, the reason is still a mystery but many folk tales about this phenomenon. It is said that where the Resonant Sand Bay lies was used to be a lamasery. One day when the lamas were chanting sutra and beating drums, a wild wind swept over the lamasery and buried it in the sand suddenly. Lamas' spirits still linger there and the sounds are their chanting and grumbling.

Facilities

Resonant Sand Bay is not only a mysterious natural wonder but a joyful desert world. The national Ordos wedding banquet hall, elegant ecological landscape restaurant, the cafeteria are provided here. With all of these restaurants, Resonant Sand Bay can accommodate 4,000 people to dine and 300 people to accommodate at the same time.

Activities

Besides the traditional activities, such as riding camels and horses, watching singing and dancing performances, riding on the dunes and desert safaris, visitor also can experience about 20 desert activities, including the desert paraglider, bonfires parties, space-balls and desert surfing in total.
