Located in the northeast of Shanxi province, at the foot of Yanmen Pass, Daixian covers an area of 1969 square kilometers with a population of 21 thousand. It is regarded as National historical and cultural city since 1994.
History
In history, Daixian Belongs to Dai Kingdom, and named Guangwu Xian in Western Han Dynasty. Since it is located at the foot of Yanman Pass, it used to be called Yamen Xian. And it was named Daixian on 1912. As a small border town, Daixian takes a great geographic military importance.
Attractions
With a long history and numerous cultural relics, Daixian County is rich in cultural heritage. Historic relics include a site of the Neolithic Age, the sites of the Great Wall and castles constructed in the Han Dynasty (206BC-220AD), the site of 39 castles and 12 connected walls built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and so on. Besides, there are the Yanmen Pass, the Bianjing Building, the Temple of Literature and son on.
The Bianjing Building is well- known as the First Floor of Yanmen. Yamen Pass is regard as “The first hurdle of China”, showing its great military importance. The Pagoda of King Asoka is one of the five pagodas with Buddha's relics in Shanxi Province.

Daixian Railway Station is located at 108 National Road, offering ways to Beijing, Shanxi, Lingqiu and so on. Climate
Daixian is located in a temperate continental semi-arid climate zone with four distinctive seasons. It has a long, cold and dry winter and a short, hot and rainy summer. It has significant daily temperature variation in spring and a transient and mild climate in autumn.

Tips
1. The best time to visit Daixian is from October to December.
2. There are two Bank of China 24-hours Self-service Bank in Daixian, the former one is located at Jingyuan North Road, Yuanping, and the later one is at Tiyu North Road, Yuanping.
3. There are two hotel recommended in Daixian. The one is Yanjing Hotel at 30 males south to Bianjing Floor. The other one is Yanmen Hotel at Xinnan Street.
