Starting from Xining, northwest China's Qinghai Province and stretching about 1.956 kilometers in the whole line to Lhasa, Qinghai-Tibet Railway was claimed to be the highest and the longest railway in the world. It is the landmark project of implementing the strategy of the development of the west regions and one of the four great engineering in the new century of China. The highest peak of the railway is about 5,072 meters, so the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was honored as the sky railway to Tibet. With an average altitude of about 2.000 meters and an extension of about 1,960 kilometers, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway creates many of the world wonders. It is rather a monument of the human construction than a railway.
The Train Condition
According to the climate, environment and the snowy plateau scenery along the Qianghai-Tibet railway, the internal design of the tourism train reflects the atmosphere of modernization and comfort and solves the operation problems caused by the bad natural environment and the plateau climate technically. In order to meet the oxygen requirement, the train was adopted the method of combing the dispersion type of oxygen supply and the distribution type of oxygen inhalation, which increased the oxygen content in the whole car and ensure the oxygen needs of the passenger.
In order to meet the environment requirement, waste, wastewater and garbage collection devices are installed inside the train. What’s more, the selection of the nonmetallic material and the electric meet the special requirement of the Qianghai-Tibet plateau environment. The Qianghai-Tibet railway tourism train is the most advanced in China. With the spacious windows and comfortable chairs, the train shows the amorous feelings of the Qinghai to Tibet area.
To provide travelers better opportunity to enjoy the stunningly beautiful scenery on that way, nine scenery viewing platforms have been set up at nine stations. These include: Yuzhu Peak Station, Chumaer River. Tuotuo river, Buqiangge, Tanggula Mountain, Lake Namtso, Nagqu, Damshung, Yambajan. The platforms are about 500 meters long and 1.25 meters high. On the platform, visitors can enjoy the views around that area and take photos.

The Highest Railway
With the longest mileage of permafrost and the high altitude, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway starts from the Xining, northwest China's Qinghai Province and ends at Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. The total length of the railway is about 1,956 kilometers and 960 kilometers of them are above the sea level of about 4,000 kilometers. No railway but the Qinghai-Tibet Railway can give people a feeling of shock and excitement. Wandering as a giant steel dragon, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was undoubtedly the longest and the highest plateau railway in the world.
The Fenghuoshan Tunnel
Lying on the Mount Fenghuoshan with an altitude of about 5,010 meters, the Fenghuoshan Tunnel is about 1.338 meters kiong and the rail surface height is about 4,905 meters above the sea level. All of the tunnel are located in the permanent plateau permafrost, which makes the tunnel the world’s longest plateau permafrost tunnel and the tallest tunnel.
The Tanggula Station
Located in the mouth puerto of the Tanggula Mountain with an altitude of about 5,068 meter, the Tanggula Station covers an area of about 77,000 square meters and was designed into three lanes. It was built mainly to meet the needs of the trail meeting. According to the geographical position and the geological characteristics of the station, the project adopted the ventilation subgrade, which can make the permafrost temperature remained relatively stable.
In 2004, the construction of the Tanggula Station has been complected and it is one of the charming attractions in the area. Bridges were built for the wild animals, such as the antelope can travel through the cave. More than 150 kilometers on the railway are built bridges for the railway. It is built to slove the subgrade area problems in the Railway permafrost zone.
